About Start Fresh Laundry
At Start Fresh Laundry, we believe every child deserves to feel clean, confident, and ready to learn. We provide free laundry assistance to children in need throughout Stanly County, North Carolina. Our mission is simple: To help ensure every child has clean clothing, dignity, confidence, and a fresh start for school and daily life. We do this through community donations and local partnerships.
Our Story
Start Fresh Laundry began with a heartwarming idea: to remove a common barrier many children face. We saw a need in Stanly County and knew our community could come together to make a real difference. From that idea, a dedicated team grew, driven by compassion and a desire to uplift our youngest community members. We understand that something as simple as clean clothes can profoundly impact a child's self-esteem and ability to focus in school.
Jennifer Hudson
Founder & Executive Director
Start Fresh Laundry was founded by Jennifer Hudson after more than 15 years working in EMS. In that work, she saw firsthand the hardships many families face behind closed doors, including children without reliable access to clean clothes, a working washer and dryer, or the resources to keep up with laundry.
Those experiences stayed with her. Jennifer believes something as simple as clean clothing can make a tremendous difference in a child’s confidence, dignity, and experience at school. She created Start Fresh so that children facing circumstances beyond their control can get free, discreet laundry help and begin each week with clean clothes and a fresh start.

Our Vision
We are always looking for meaningful ways to expand our support for children and families throughout Stanly County. Our current goal is to purchase two commercial washers and two commercial dryers, allowing Start Fresh Laundry to increase our capacity, serve more children, and provide an even greater impact in our community. But our vision goes far beyond our current laundry program.
In the future, we hope to create a Start Fresh Mobile Care Trailer that can travel directly into the communities where help is needed most. The trailer would be equipped with showers, commercial laundry facilities, restrooms, and handwashing stations, providing free access to essential hygiene services. Our goal is to partner with schools, homeless shelters, churches, community organizations, and other locations throughout the area, bringing the trailer to different communities throughout the week.
Whether it is a child who needs clean clothes for school, a family experiencing homelessness, or someone going through an unexpected hardship, we want Start Fresh to meet people where they are with dignity, compassion, and no judgment.
Help us reach our goal of two commercial washers and dryers.
